| Instead of the big vacation like we did last summer, we are doing multiple weekenders this summer and I gotta say, these mini vacay's are more enjoyable and less hassle. Two weeks ago, my wife and I spent a few days/nights on Topsail Island, another of the gorgeous and quiet NC beaches, about 4.5 hours from our home. This weekend, we're going back to our favorite spot in the mountains, Lake Lure/Chimney Rock, which is south of Asheville and a bit closer to home (2.5 hours). We'll be spending early Saturday climbing the boulders of the French Broad River and later, we'll be cruising around Lake Lure , voted one of the worlds 10 most beautiful lakes by Nat Geo, in a rented boat. This time, we're taking my older daughter, her boyfriend, her son, my sister in law and her daughter. What have you guys/gals been doing this summer?? Hope your all having fun. Cold weather will be back before you know it and this wonderful warm weather will be a distant memory. http://www.chimneyrockpark.com/http://www.lodgeonlakelure.com/http://www.lake-lure.com/http://www.travelpod.com/travel-photo/chuckh/goingrtw/1163430540/img_0034.jpg/tpod.htmlhttp://www.topsailbeach.org/ | |

| If you aren't in a hurry to get there, or back home, I recommend you check out Linville Falls if you've never been there. It's about an hour North of I-40 off exit 85. Several different hiking trails of varying lengths, none overly strenuous though. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, really pretty. http://www.romanticasheville.com/linville_falls.htm | |

| We have been to Linville Falls, many years ago. You are right, its an awesome place to check out. The Blue Ridge is America's most beautiful highway. | |

| Lake Lure was un-fucking believable. Must have been 100 degrees in Chimney Rock but we spent our day climbing boulders on the Rocky Broad River and playing in the lake. | |

| Hey Neil! Sweet forum!
My girlfriend and I just booked a kinda spur of the moment vacation. She has to travel a lot for work in the fall, and I in the middle of trying to change jobs and move back to the Philadelphia area! So timing was huge.
We found a pretty decent deal from Apple Vacations. I usually don't use these types of things as they usually turn out to be ripoffs, but we found a deal for 4 days, 3 nights, in Punta Cana (I've never been to the DR before) for an all inclusive (never did one of those either) stay at the Dreams Resort from August 13-16. Came out to a total of about $1550 including flight for the both of us.
I searched for myself and doing this on my own would have cost around $2000. So I think it was a pretty good deal. I'm really excited.
I like your idea of doing a bunch of mini vacations rather than 1 big vacation. | |

| Well, the big ones have their purpose too. For what its worth, the all inclusive is the way to go. We did one in Jamaica and it was the best vacation we ever went on. Had a cup glued to my hand, filled with Jamaican punch the entire trip. I won't even get into the jerk chicken we ate gulf side every day. You and your girl are going to have a blast. | |
